Dr. Maury Debber

  • Board Certified Pediatric Dentist

My Story

Before becoming a Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Maury Debber, or “Uncle Moe,” found his passion for working with kids in a very different setting.

‍
After studying Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, he worked as an ABA therapist, teaching and supporting young children with special needs. Watching his students grow, learn, and succeed was incredibly rewarding and ultimately inspired him to pursue a career where he could continue making a difference in the lives of children.

‍
Today, Uncle Moe brings that same patience, encouragement, and care into every dental visit, helping kids feel comfortable, confident, and proud of their smiles.

Dr. Maury

Background & Education

Born and raised in Central California, Uncle Moe took a nontraditional path to dentistry. He earned his degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara before heading to the University of Michigan for dental school. Go Blue!

Aloha Calls

That shared vision is ultimately what brought Uncle Moe to the Big Island. He is excited to call Kona home, become part of the community, and help its keiki build healthy smiles and a positive relationship with the dentist from an early age.

Pediatric Specialization

After dental school, Uncle Moe completed his Pediatric Dentistry residency at Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, DC, graduating in 2023.
His experience working with children, including those with special needs, continues to shape the way he approaches pediatric dentistry. He shares Dr. Matt’s vision of creating positive dental experiences for the keiki of Kona and providing thoughtful, compassionate care to every child who walks through the door.

Personal Life

When he’s not caring for patients, Uncle Moe loves spending time with family, exploring the great outdoors, traveling, and sightseeing. As a newcomer to the Big Island, he’s especially excited to experience everything Kona and the surrounding community have to offer.

My Story

Based on the awful dental experiences I had as a child, I should never have become a dentist.

From 4 to 6 years old, I had some small, routine, fillings and it was traumatic. I still remember the sharp piercing of the needle as it went into my jaw, the pressure from the rubber dam clamp, the menacing sound of the drill, the terrible taste of the materials, and the strange off-putting smell of the dental office.

‍
By the time I was 7 years old, I quit cooperating at the dentist because I thought they were always going to hurt me. My mom was so embarrassed with my behavior, she quit taking me and I ended up with some bad teeth as a teenager.

‍
Eventually I had my teeth fixed, but I never wanted any other child to experience what I went through.

‍
So when I became a Pediatric Dentist, it became my mission to always make sure every experience for every child feels safe, comfortable, and calm.

Rest assured your child will never have an experience like I did. We do everything we can to create a positive, enjoyable environment that will keep them looking forward to every visit.
